George Washington University defeated the University of Rhode Island 75-70 in an Atlantic 10 men’s basketball game on Tuesday night. The Revolutionaries used their advantage in size, particularly with center Luke Hunger, to secure the win.
Hunger, who had been averaging 6.4 points per game before this matchup, scored 21 points and was a key factor as George Washington scored 40 points in the paint. His performance helped end a four-game losing streak for the Revolutionaries, who now have a record of 14-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
Rhode Island fell behind by as many as 17 points early in the second half but managed to close the gap to just four points following an 18-6 run led by Tyler Cochran. Cochran finished with a team-high 24 points, marking his eighth consecutive game scoring in double digits and his fourth time topping 20 points in his last five games.
Myles Corey contributed 20 points along with three rebounds and two steals for Rhode Island. Jonah Hinton returned from injury to add seven points off the bench after missing three games.
Despite these efforts, George Washington maintained control throughout the second half. Garrett Johnson scored 17 points and Tyrone Marshall added 15 for the Revolutionaries. The team also held a nine-rebound advantage over Rhode Island, finishing with a 39-30 edge on the boards.
Rhode Island’s offense struggled early, managing only a season-low 18 first-half points. The Rams played without Jahmere Tripp due to an injury suffered prior to the game.
Rhode Island (14-10 overall, 5-6 A-10) will return home to face Fordham on Saturday, February 14 at noon. The game will be available on ESPN+ and Varsity Network.
