Rhode Island defeated Quinnipiac 9-2 in a midweek baseball game, according to an April 8 announcement. The Rams secured the win by scoring seven runs in the third inning and holding the Bobcats to just four hits through eight innings.
The matchup saw Rhode Island’s offense come alive early, with eight of nine starters crossing home plate. Reece Moroney led the team, going 3-for-5 with a home run, double, and three runs batted in. Moroney started the decisive third inning with a solo homer and later singled in two more runs during his second at-bat of the frame.
Jack Hopko contributed two hits and drove in two runs for Rhode Island. Brian Connolly also had three base hits, collected two RBI, and scored once. Ryan Thompson doubled to bring in another run during the pivotal third inning surge.
Pitching duties were shared among eight Rhode Island players on what was described as a staff day. Starter Josh Kopetski pitched two innings facing six batters, allowing one hit and striking out one. Dorsy Asencio, Will Creed, Parker Aikens each surrendered one hit over their respective innings pitched while Connor Grotyohann, Colin Maloney, and Connor Johnston threw scoreless frames without giving up any hits.
Quinnipiac managed only four hits until they added two late runs with two outs in the ninth inning to avoid being shut out entirely.
Looking ahead, Rhode Island is set to host LaSalle for a three-game series beginning Friday at Bill Beck Field.
