Rhode Island secured its first win of the season with a 19-9 victory over Brown in a game that ended after seven innings. The Rams relied on a strong offensive performance late in the game, scoring six runs across the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to pull away from the Bears.
A key moment came in the sixth inning when Ryan Henschel hit a grand slam, extending Rhode Island’s lead to 16-7. This was Henschel’s second home run of the day; he also hit a solo homer in the fourth inning. Jack Hopko joined him with a three-run home run during that same frame, which helped push Rhode Island ahead 10-7 after four innings.
The Rams started quickly, putting up four runs in their first at-bat. Ryan Thompson drove in two runs with a single and TJ Gormley added two more RBIs with a double for an early 4-0 advantage. Brown responded immediately by tying the game with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Rhode Island regained control in the second inning when Aidan Botti tripled home a run and later scored on Reece Moroney’s sacrifice fly, making it 6-4. The Rams continued to add to their total and finished off their scoring with two more runs in the seventh.
Four players from Rhode Island recorded three-hit games. Henschel led all hitters with three hits—including two homers and a triple—and six RBIs. Botti went 3-for-5, driving in one run and scoring three times himself. Moroney matched Botti’s output at 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Ryan King also collected three hits and crossed home plate twice. Thompson contributed both offensively and defensively, finishing with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Rhode Island will play its next game at home against New Haven on Tuesday, March 10 at Bill Beck Field in Kingston.
