Rhode Island lost to Fordham 70-66 in an overtime game at the Ryan Center on Saturday. The Rams, holding a 12-point lead early in the second half, were unable to score a field goal after Myles Corey hit a three-pointer with just over five minutes left in regulation.
Fordham tied the game at 63 with 22 seconds remaining in regulation after Roor Akhuar made a three-pointer. In overtime, Christian Henry added another three-pointer for Fordham with just over a minute left, giving his team a lead they maintained through free throws until the end of the game.
Rhode Island had built its largest lead following two RJ Johnson free throws early in the second half. Fordham then reduced the deficit and Rhode Island responded with a 7-0 run capped by an alley-oop from Jonah Hinton to Keeyan Itejere. Itejere fouled out late in regulation.
Rhode Island finished with 14 assists on their 21 made baskets. Tyler Cochran led all scorers with 25 points, making nine of his thirteen shots and adding nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Myles Corey contributed 11 points along with two rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block. Keeyan Itejere scored eight points with four rebounds and an assist before fouling out.
Other contributors included Jonah Hinton (eight points, four assists), RJ Johnson (seven points, five assists), Alex Crawford (five points, five rebounds), Jalen Harper (two points), and Drissa Traore (five rebounds).
