St. Bonaventure defeated Rhode Island 94-76 on Thursday, with Darryl Simmons II, Cayden Charles, and Frank Mitchell combining for 61 points to lead the Bonnies. The game was close in the opening 10 minutes, featuring two ties and two lead changes. After a three-pointer by Tyler Cochran put Rhode Island ahead 21-20, St. Bonaventure responded with a 10-0 run to take a nine-point lead.
By halftime, the Bonnies extended their advantage to 11 points after a layup from Simmons II made it 39-28. Myles Corey scored just before the break to cut the deficit to single digits for Rhode Island.
In the second half, St. Bonaventure continued its strong performance, making 10 of its first 15 field goal attempts and building a 73-53 lead with about eight minutes remaining. Rhode Island was unable to mount a comeback and has now lost four of its last five games.
St. Bonaventure outrebounded Rhode Island 34-26 and had a 17-10 edge in second-chance points. The first half saw both teams combine for 15 turnovers—eight by St. Bonaventure and seven by Rhode Island.
Tyler Cochran led Rhode Island with his seventh 20-point game of the season, finishing with 21 points and seven rebounds. Jahmere Tripp returned after missing four games and contributed 10 points off the bench in 18 minutes of play. Keeyan Itejere added another double-digit effort with 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
RJ Johnson had six points along with six assists for Rhode Island, while Jalen Harper provided seven points and two rebounds.
Rhode Island (15-13 overall, 6-9 Atlantic 10) will host Saint Joseph’s on Saturday at noon for Senior Day. The game will be available on ESPN+ and the Varsity Network.
