Rhode Island’s men’s track and field team secured its sixth consecutive Atlantic 10 indoor championship on Saturday in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Rams finished with a total of 239 points, more than doubling the score of their nearest competitor, George Mason, which finished second with 112 points. VCU placed third with 106 points.
The Rams had seven individual champions at the event. Alex Arbogast won the 60-meter dash in 6.85 seconds. Maddox Jordan claimed victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.43. Antonio Capalbo set a championship record in the 1000 meters, finishing in 2:23.25.
Nick Martin was first in the 3000 meters (8:18.74) and also won the 5000 meters earlier in the meet with a time of 13:55.10.
In field events, Matt Santy took first place in the high jump by clearing seven feet and a quarter inch (7’0.25″) and also won the long jump on Friday with a leap of 7.57 meters, setting another championship best mark.
Theo Puterbaugh led shot put competitors with a throw of 54 feet, two and three-quarter inches (54’2.75″). Wyatt Lamell earned top honors in the heptathlon by accumulating 5,139 points.
Several Rhode Island athletes contributed additional podium finishes throughout the meet:
– Arbogast placed fourth in the 200 meters.
– Josia Katroli was runner-up in high jump; Cam Miller and Rowan McConkey were third and fourth respectively.
– Winslow Sightler and Brandon Wolfenden finished second and fourth respectively in shot put.
– The relay team of Jaden Enis, Jeremy Roe, Capalbo, and Jordan finished second in the 4×800 meter relay.
– Ben Fatone took fourth place in the mile run.
– Lucas Andrade achieved personal bests to finish second in the 60-meter hurdles (7.91 seconds) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (6.90 seconds).
– Elias Sposato placed fourth overall in the 400 meters.
– Nick Morrison ran to fourth place in the 500 meters.
– The quartet of Sam Gott, Camden Rose, Morrison, and Sposato finished second overall in the concluding event—the men’s indoor track & field relay—clocking a time of 3:14.70.
Additional results from Friday included Joachim Ennoo finishing second behind Santy’s winning long jump performance while Izzy Henriques-Setho came fourth; Tyler Grabinski took fourth place for pole vault; Nate Field was third overall among weight throwers.
Awards were given for outstanding performances at both individual and coaching levels:
