Rhode Island men’s track and field athletes competed at the UConn Northeast Challenge on April 18, with several team members achieving high placements in multiple events.
The competition provided an opportunity for Rhode Island athletes to test their abilities against regional opponents ahead of upcoming meets. Performances from this event are expected to help the team prepare for future challenges.
Samuel Gott finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.31 seconds. In the 1500 meters, Jeremy Roe secured third place with a time of 3:53.01, closely followed by Ben Fatone in fourth at 3:53.94. Lucas Andrade earned second place in the 110-meter hurdles after finishing in 13.95 seconds, while Matthew Lucas was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:18.72.
The Rams’ relay teams also performed well, as the 4×400 meter relay squad took second place with a time of 3:09.94. In field events, Josia Katroli placed second in the high jump (2.08 meters), Rowan McConkey was third (2.05 meters), and Cam Miller finished fourth (2.00 meters). Nathan Park finished second in pole vault (4.80 meters) and Alex Destefano came fifth (4.55 meters).
In long jump, Matt Santy claimed first place with a leap of 7.49 meters, leading a sweep by Rhode Island as Joachim Ennoo took second (7.47m), Nathan Shultz was third (7.07m), Izzy Henriques-Setho placed fourth (6.98m), and Damian Scouloukas rounded out the top five at fifth (6.96m). Ennoo also won triple jump with a mark of 14.74 meters while Henriques-Setho placed second at 14.51 meters.
Winslow Sightler achieved fourth place in shot put after throwing for a distance of 16.39 meters; Theo Puterbaugh followed closely behind in fifth at 16.30 meters.
Looking ahead, Rhode Island’s men’s track and field team will compete next week at the Penn Relays from Thursday through Saturday.
