The Rhode Island Rams men’s track and field team competed in two separate meets on March 28, sending athletes to the Jaylin Rainford Invitational at Bryant University and the Raleigh Relays.
These competitions provided opportunities for both field and track athletes to showcase their abilities against a range of competitors. The split squad approach allowed more Rams athletes to participate in high-level events.
At the Jaylin Rainford Invitational, Theo Puterbaugh led a sweep for Rhode Island in the shot put, winning with a throw of 16.78 meters (55′ 0.75″). Winslow Sightler finished second with a mark of 16.61 meters (54′ 6″), while CJ McDermott took third at 14.58 meters (47′ 10″). Sightler also placed third in the discus with a top throw of 46.09 meters (151′ 2″), followed by Alex Fitzsimmons who finished fifth at 45.14 meters (148’1″). In the hammer throw, Nathan Field led Rhode Island with a fourth-place finish after throwing for 55.40 meters (181’9″), and Brandon Wolfenden was fifth at 54.03 meters (177’3″).
At the Raleigh Relays, Maddox Jordan ran the men’s 1500m and placed 109th with a time of 3:49.52, while Antonio Capalbo finished close behind in 111th place at 3:49.90. Nick Martin crossed the line in the men’s 5000m event with a time of 14:04.47 for a final position of thirty-fourth overall.
Other notable performances included Alex Arbogast finishing forty-fourth in the men’s hundred-meter dash with a time of ten point six six six seconds, and Elias Sposato taking nineteenth place in the four-hundred-meter run by clocking forty-seven point two seven seconds.
The Rams are scheduled to return to competition next Saturday on April fourth at the Ocean State Cup.
