The Rhode Island Rams lost both games of a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on April 17, dropping the first two contests of their three-game series in upstate New York. The Rams were defeated by the Bonnies with scores of 7-4 and 15-13.

These losses affect Rhode Island’s record in the Atlantic 10 conference, where they now stand at 9-8, while their overall record moves to 15-22. St. Bonaventure improved its conference standing to 5-12 and overall record to 11-24.

In game one, Rhode Island hit four solo home runs but could not overcome a grand slam by St. Bonaventure’s Alex Hebenstreit in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave the home team a decisive lead. Scott Penney opened scoring for Rhode Island with a home run on his first at-bat, and Ryan Thompson contributed two solo home runs during the game. Jack Hopko also added a solo shot late in the contest.

Game two saw both teams combine for 28 runs and as many hits, with Rhode Island narrowly losing after holding leads throughout much of the matchup. Hopko tripled to drive in Reece Moroney and put Rhode Island ahead in the seventh inning, but St. Bonaventure responded with three runs in their half of that frame to secure victory.

Several Rams had notable performances across both games: Thompson went three-for-four with two homers in game one; Hopko had five hits across both games including a triple and two RBI; Penney recorded six hits over both contests along with multiple RBI; Aidan Botti, Danny Leikus, and Ryan Henschel each had multi-hit outings as well.

The series between these Atlantic 10 rivals will conclude tomorrow with another matchup scheduled for noon.
