The Rhode Island Rams lost to the Richmond Spiders 17-2 in the second game of their weekend baseball series on March 28. The game took place in Richmond, with the Spiders taking an early lead and maintaining control throughout.

This result is significant for both teams as they compete within the Atlantic 10 conference, each seeking to improve their standings. Both teams entered the matchup with identical conference records of three wins and five losses.

Rhode Island scored first in the top of the opening inning when Jack Hopko’s groundout allowed Paul Calandrelli to reach home plate. However, Richmond responded forcefully by scoring nine runs in their half of the first inning. The Spiders continued to add runs, scoring in six out of eight offensive innings and building a commanding lead that resulted in a final score of 17-2.

For Rhode Island, Calandrelli finished with two hits and one run scored, while Scott Penney contributed one hit and also crossed home plate once. Reece Moroney and Hopko each recorded a run batted in during the loss.

The two teams are scheduled to conclude their series tomorrow afternoon in Richmond, with first pitch set for noon.
