The Rhode Island Rams men’s golf team moved up to fourth place after the second round of the Wildcat Spring Invitational on April 6, helped by an even-par performance from Luke Stennett.
The team’s improvement came after a challenging first round in which all members finished over par, placing Rhode Island seventh out of twelve teams. In the second round, Stennett recorded four birdies and advanced 25 spots on the individual leaderboard, ending the day in eighth place overall heading into the final round.
Other team members also improved their scores. Josiah Tong reduced his score by six strokes between rounds and climbed 19 places individually. Aidan O’Donovan and Tyler Bruneau each lowered their scores as well.
“The golf course is not as difficult as we made it,” Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. “But make no mistake, this is a championship level 18 holes of golf. As always look at guys who play their best late in the round, late in the tournament, and late in the season. Tomorrow is all of that.
“We were really happy to see Luke get back to form, but we need better golf from all four guys tomorrow.”
Villanova leads with a score of plus-16 (584), followed by Georgetown (587) and Navy (593). Rhode Island shares fourth place with Seton Hall at 594.
