The Rhode Island Rams men’s baseball team will host the University of New Haven Chargers in their home opener at Bill Beck Field in Kingston on March 10. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. and marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
This matchup is significant as it not only opens the Rams’ home schedule but also features a connection between the two teams’ coaching staffs. Rhode Island head coach Raphael Cerrato previously served as head coach at New Haven from 2007 to 2011, where he recorded 131 wins before joining Rhode Island as an assistant coach in 2012. Cerrato has led the Rams as head coach since 2015.
The teams are set to meet again later this season on April 28 in West Haven, Connecticut. This year marks New Haven’s first season competing as a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), having accepted an invitation to join in May 2025 and officially beginning membership on July 1, 2025. Before joining the NEC, New Haven competed at the NCAA Division II level.
Rhode Island’s original home opener against Sacred Heart, scheduled for March 3, was canceled due to field conditions at Bill Beck Field. Additionally, a doubleheader against Brown slated for March 7 was moved to Brown’s Murray Stadium because of similar issues with field conditions.
The Rams have started their season with thirteen consecutive road games, including series against Jacksonville, Alabama, Kent State, and Brown. The upcoming game provides an opportunity for Rhode Island to play its first contest at home this season.
