Rhode Island Women’s Rowing teams achieved victories in the Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races against Bucknell on April 18 during dual rounds held at Lake Cayuga in Ithaca, New York.
The event was notable as Rhode Island’s Second Varsity 8 boat, featuring Rachel Bauhaus, Amanda Cubit, Emma Larsh, Anna Kann, Sage Sabatino, Abigail Galayda, Payton Klein, Charlotte Aeder, and Anna Smithand as well as the Varsity 4 boat with Kate Sullivan, Irma Accius, Maddy Papik, Eryn Wale, and Sophia Thyer outpaced their Bucknell competitors. These wins highlighted the team’s performance among a competitive field.
In detailed results versus Bucknell: Rhode Island finished second to Bucknell in the Varsity 8+ with times of 6:34.2 for Rhode Island and 6:31.3 for Bucknell. The Second Varsity 8+ saw Rhode Island take first place with a time of 6:50.8 compared to Bucknell’s time of 6:55.4. In the Varsity 4+, Rhode Island won with a time of 7:51.4 while Bucknell finished at 7:59.9.
Against Cornell on the same day at Lake Cayuga, Rhode Island placed second across all events contested by both schools. In the Varsity 8+, Cornell finished first at a time of 6:27.47 while Rhode Island followed at 6:32.35; similar results were seen in other categories including Second Varsity and Third Varsity races.
Looking ahead, Rhode Island will compete against Cornell again in May during the Eastern Sprints scheduled to take place in Worcester, Massachusetts.
