Rhode Island finished tied for 11th place at the Sam Ryder Invitational, held in Daytona Beach, Florida. The team struggled on the final day of the tournament, posting a score of 14 over par as a group.
Tyler Bruneau was a bright spot for the Rams, shooting 1-under par on the last day. He played his final 11 holes at 2-under and moved up 11 places on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 20th out of 84 players. Junior Josiah Tong completed the event at seven over par, tying for 30th place.
“A very smart man once told me that you are what you score. So this is where we are,” Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. “It is time to evaluate, go back to what made us good over the years, regroup and move on.”
The team will try to improve its performance next week at the Surf Golf and Beach Club Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The event is hosted by Appalachian State and will take place from March 9-10.
Stetson took first place in the tournament with a total score of 851, followed by Baylor and Campbell.
