Rhode Island defeated Bryant 6-1 on Apr. 9 during Senior Day at the URI Tennis Complex.

The win marked the Rams’ third consecutive season with at least a .500 record, and it was their 40th victory since Jonas Brobeck became head coach three years ago. The match also served as a celebration for seniors Nikki Fernando, Sophie Herrman, and Ava Grnja, who were recognized before play began.

All three seniors contributed to the team’s success against Bryant. Fernando and Kajsa Helgesen earned their 17th doubles win of the season in the No. 1 position, while Herrman and Grnja won at No. 3 doubles to improve their record as a pair to 12-8 this year. Grace Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson completed a sweep of doubles matches for Rhode Island.

In singles competition, wins came from Darcy, Fernando, Herrman, Helgesen, and Miruna Scarlat. The only singles loss for Rhode Island was by Pettersson against Mila Martinez of Bryant.

“I am very happy and proud of our seniors,” Brobeck said. “They have meant so much to us and our program, and I love how they competed with energy and heart on their special day. We can’t wait for another quality match on Saturday against a good George Washington team.” The Rams will conclude their home schedule by hosting George Washington on Saturday, April 11.
