Providence, R.I.—Senior designated player Cassidy Schoen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) smacked a solo home run as the Rhode Island College softball team dropped game one of a doubleheader, 2-1, at Johnson & Wales on Wednesday afternoon.
THE BASICS

Johnson & Wales (10-6)
Rhode Island College (4-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Schoen teed-off on a pitch in the first inning to give RIC an early, 1-0, advantage.
• Both teams' pitching settled in, as the next run came in the bottom of the fifth off of a sacrifice fly. The game sat at 1-1 all the way into the seventh.
• In the home half of the last inning, a RIC miscue allowed a runner on, who eventually landed at third base. A single by sophomore second baseman Gabby Colace (Franklin, Mass.) brought in the winning run for a walk-off victory.
• Schoen was 2-for-3 with homer.
• Sophomore starter Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) took the loss (3-3).
